Advance Announcement - Main Line Diesel and Electric Locomotives

Welcome to our range of new and updated Main Line Diesel and Electric loco kits.

These kits incorporate many new features that you have requested from us.

Firstly, all this range of kits are supplied with both a pre-formed body & central roof sections.

They feature positive slot and tab location assembly for the cab roof bases and cab front backing panels, thus ensuring easy, square and accurate assembly of the main loco body and central roof sections - and onto which the decorative and non-loadbearing resin cab front & roof units can be fixed - just like the real thing - giving you all the benifits and permanance of metal construction with the peace of mind of knowing that very quickly, you will have on your bench a loco superstructive that is true & square and that a silly mistake cannot easily ruin. Note that we never use resin in shapes and circumstances where there is a risk of warping - something that large flat areas of resin can be prone to over time.

All this enables you to then proceed in confidence to the 'fun part' of adding the fine details, which are the hallmark of an MMP loco kit .

The chassis/floor section is removable and carries both of the cab interiors and the central underfoor equipment making glazing, painting and maintenance/repairs an easy matter. We supply certified clear cobex for the glazing, which can be fitted after painting in almost all cases and is easily maskable where this is not possible.

Once the chassis/floor section has been removed, access is available to the underside of the central roof sections and the undoing of the fastenings for these facilitates the removal of the radiator, engine room and electrical compartment roofs. Again, this makes both painting and maintenance/repairs much easier.

These new kits are designed to be 'gadget friendly' in almost every respect. The fitting of LED lighting has been thought about and provided for in the design, in terms of hole diameters and the routing of wiring. Also the siting of both sound and smoke units is provided for, as is, of course, that of fitting a DCC decoder. Provision is also made for fitting of the MMP Fan Motorising Set [see listing in the products section below].

The bogies are fully detailed and include most/all of the feasable detail of the prototype - mounted in a way that is removable for maintenance purposes. The Mashima or Cannon motors that these locomotives now use are mounted in an easily removable self-contained unit that is designed to be as unobtrusive as possible and that is below the floor level [important in a loco such as the Class 60]. This unit powers the central and inner axles of a six wheeled bogie [except in the case of Class 31 - where the outer axles are powered by means of an extension shaft], or both axles on a four wheeled bogie. The motorising unit is designed as to be rigid or compensated when running on inside bearings or to be sprung when running in outside bearing wheels - directly into working horn blocks in the bogie sideframes.

All these features mean a price rise inevitably - but one that is modest enough to still leave these locomotive kits as by far the best value in terms of price and detail that are currently on offer today to the 7mm British modern outline modeller.

NOTE ABOUT SECOND-HAND LOCO KITS

We have had several phone calls from modellers who have purchased second-hand loco kits and then find that parts are damaged or missing. They then become disappointed when we cannot supply individual castings or etchings. We now sub-contract all of our casting due to pressure of work and are only geared up to supply complete sets of castings. Our etched sheets usually provide spares for the very small parts but we cannot get more of these without ordering a complete sheet - often 24"x12" in size! It is not our fault if some people misuse or abuse their kits - so if you are buying S/H or part- made kits be very very careful - check the contents against the parts lists in the kit instructions and make sure it is complete - otherwise you might end up with a duff 'Duff' or a 'Pup' instead of a Gronk!
