Firing Line 1/76th WW2 Vehicles & Vehicle Conversion/Detail Sets

These are quite different to other 1/76th kits on the market. Most of the vehicles are built ‘from the ground up’ as per the real thing - starting with the chassis, axles, drive and wheels first, then moving onto to the cab and body areas. They include a host of fine details more normally associated with 1/48th or 1/35th scale model. Some of the smaller vehicles are primarily cast with etched detailing, whilst some of the more angular box-like designs, such as the big lorries, are etched kits with cast fittings. It is only by use of etching that the scale thickness flanges to all of the chassis members can be replicated accurately in a small scale such as 1/76th. Eight of these kits originate from the old Lead Sled Models range and we have taken these kits back to the original masters, refined them and made wholly new moulds from brass sub-masters for consistent quality. We have also added much fine etched detailing to replace some cast parts which we considered over-scale. This brings them into line with the rest of the range of 76th kits, originated by ourselves.

Several Detail & conversion sets for injection moulded kits are also planned.

Over time it will build into a highly-collectable series of WWII-era models depicting many interesting and original British Army & RAF subjects.


Austin 10 Utility
This common communications vehicle was based on the Austin 10 car chassis, with the rear passenger section converted to a pick-up style body, with canvas tilt. They were to be found at virtually all service installations - and were used by the British & Commonwealth forces, by the RAF & USAAF in Britain, and by US forces in Europe. Many survived in civilian use into the 1960s.

Ford WOA2 Staff Car
This vehicle was introduced in 1941, and continued in production until July 1944. They were used by the British army, the RAF and the Royal Navy. This kit features full interior detail, and many fine photo-etched fittings for items such as windscreen wipers, mirrors, indicators and running board rails etc.

Humber Heavy Utility Staff Car
Like the Ford WOA2 - these vehicles were introduced in 1941. They were used by the British Army, RAF, Royal Navy, and by civilian organisations such as the Auxiliary Fire Service. They were often referred to as Battleaxes, and weighed 2 tons 7cwt. They were fitted with a Humber 6 Cyl. engine of 4.08 litres.

Humber Light Ambulance
These very successful vehicles used a common chassis and engine with the Humber Staff Car, and some 1,100 were built. They were used by the British Army in North Africa, Italy, and in NW Europe, following the Normandy Invasion. The kit includes internal detail - including stretchers and stretcher rails.

Humber 8cwt GS RAF Airfield Truck
Sharing a common chassis with the other Humbers in the range this interesting vehicle was used widely by the RAF in WWII for general airfield duties.

Commer Q2 GS Truck
This vehicle was built for use by British forces for the general carriage of equipment and personnel. They were used by both the RAF and the USAAF in Britain, and many survived into the 1950s. They were powered by a 6 cyl. 60hp petrol engine. The kit features many fine details, including photo etched tilt fastenings.

AEC Dorchester Armoured Command Vehicle
These interesting vehicles were used as mobile headquarters by the commanders of armoured formations, and by the Royal Signals. They saw active service from 1941 onwards - including use in North Africa, Italy, and NW Europe. The body was of 12mm armoured plate on steel frames, and the vehicles weighed nearly 12 tons. The crew consisted of eight men, including the driver. Three vehicles were captured by the Germans in North Africa, with two being used by Rommel and his staff.

Beaverette Mk.3 Point Defence Vehicle
This fascinating vehicle was introduced after the Dunkirk evacuation, as an extemporised armoured car. They were built on a 14hp car chassis, but it was only with the MK.III that proper armoured plating was introduced. They were armed with a Bren gun {as in the kit}, or with twin Vickers K machine guns. The Mk.III was used by the British Army, and by the RAF for airfield defence.

Marmon Herrington Mk.2 Armoured Car
These South African designed vehicles were the mainstay of the British armoured car regiments in the Middle East in 1941/2, and were also used in Malaya and Italy. They were used by the Indian Army in the Middle East, and the British and Indians between them had 1,180 vehicles. The South African Defence Force had over 4,500, and they were also used by the RAF for airfield defence in this region. Armament varied but a Bren Gun and a .303 Vickers machine gun were usually carried. This is a highly detailed kit - with many fine details - including photo-etched sand channels.

Bedford OWB 32 Seater Service Bus
This kit covers the utility version of the Bedford with the angular rear roof profile. The type was used by the British Army in the later war years, and examples were purchased and used by many civilian operators after 1945. The kit features a pre-formed etched body with double skinned sides to give ultra realism to the window framing, together with etched slatted utility seats. Now with Resin Roof.

Fordson WOT.2H 15cwt GS Truck
Widely used by the British Army, this last in the WOT2 series features a steel body and full-width windscreen. Super-detailed wheels and much chassis detail are a feature of this kit.

Austin K5 3 Ton 4x4 GS Lorry
Over 12,000 of these were produced for the British Army, and almost all of them were used in the general service role. This kit features a steel-bodied variant and includes much fine detail, including cab interior.

Guy FBAX 3 Ton 6x4 GS Lorry
This kit is the militarised version of a lorry in widespread use before WWII as a commercial carrier. The kit includes parts to assist the modeller who wishes to portray the vehicle in the commercial guise. This type was much favoured by the army for overseas service, such as in N. Africa, where the open cab was more appreciated than in the European Theatre.

Leyland Hippo Mk.2 10 Ton GS Lorry
This kit of the big Hippo features much small detail, including all main chassis members, plus finely-cast wheel and spring assemblies, together with full rivet detailing on the cab and windscreens. This vehicle is guaranteed to be the centre-piece of any WWII diorama.
